EZ Faux Embossing - EcoHeidi Borchers
I have used this technique as mixed media using fabric paint for the lines, but...
Think Outside the Box - To Work in Clay, Fine Extruded Filigree for the lines = Polymer FUN!
Faux Aged Copper + SteamPunk - Rach0113
Thinking Outside the Box - I make a lot of charms & embellishments with this technique
Many Thanx Rach0113
Faux Cloisonne + Altered Jars - Rach0113
Awesome Technique & Look! Now, How do we use this for our Clay work???
Thinking Outside the Box:
Make the findings used out of clay to steampunk embellish our pieces
Squirt random lines of Elmers Glue around piece to mimic raised foil areas
Create charms to press into clay piece OR as jewelry accessories
I will cover a large form like an elephant & hangpiece around neck
OR
Cover a large simple vase & hang one for the upper section to add interest
When I use aluminum foil I use a foam covered brayer that is used to paint walls :-)
Remember - Acrylics, Findings (metal), Aluminum Foil, String or Twine
& even Elmer's Glue can be added either Before Or After Baking your clay.
Happy Claying!
Faux Cloisonne with Mica - Rach0113
Cover the chipboard shape in black/color gesso (or acrylic paint) don't forget the edges and back side.
(Or use black Polymer Clay base.)
Use a Watermark Stamp Pad and dab the pad on to entire surface of the painted chipboard. The watermark stamp pad will make the enamel stick. (Product used: (BLACK) Ultra Thick Embossing Enamel. The enamel MUST be black! No clear!)
Now using the watermark stamp pad and embossing enamel coat the piece a total of three times working on the projects surface in layers. Don't forget to use the heat gun after each application to set the embossing enamel.
Dab the triple coated enamel surface with a versamark watermark stamp pad (to moisten the surface to make the powder stick better) and then use "Perfect Pearls" Banger acid-free perfect pearl (mica powder) decorate the surface in random blotches with colors of your choice. (Any mica powder will work. Perfect Pearls & Pearl Ex are used in the video.)
Choose bold and open patterned stamps and make sure to ink the stamp with permanent gold ink prior to pressing it down. (Product used for permanent gold ink: Archival pigment ink pad "Brilliance" Galaxy Gold- The ink needs to be permanent upon heat setting)
Lastly use your heat gun on the piece prior to pressing your ink filled stamp down. The heat gun will soften the layers enough for the embossing to work its way around the stamp decoration. Slowly pull up the stamp and there will be an indent left behind from the stamp- the gold metallic ink will be recessed in to the stamped area.
Faux Carnival Glass Embossing Technique - Rach0113
I use this Technique on clay to create awesome Signature Canes,
nice center focal points & skip the texture sheet to make cabochons.
I have used this technique for Mosaic projects - really nice!
Create your mosaic tiles with this technique & then mosaic your heart out!
Happy Claying

Faux Black Opals in Resin - T SummerLee
Materials used: Envirotex Lite epoxy resin, black mica powder, cellophane glitter, molds, mixing cups and a mixing stick.
DO Not coat mold. Resin will pop right out after curing.
Resin purchased from Michael's.
" I get the sheets of cellophane known as "metallic tissue paper" at the Dollar Tree. I don't know if they have it in your area but in my stores it's near the gift bags and such... and guess how much? A dollar. :)
** Famowood (brand resin) that you have a lot more working time. It takes it a lot longer to set up in the mold, so be sure and let it cure good before removing it from the mold. Also if you get air bubbles when you pour, just blow on it and they come to the top
*** Some tips to save money, just buy clear irridescent cellophane like Easter grass (comes in pink, green, blue etc), wrapping paper, bags, tinsel, snow flakes etc.; cut it up into small pieces and use. Just make sure the cellophane doesn't have a backing to it like paper or foil. I also used black iron oxide (1lb. ebay ) instead of mica. You have to let the clear resin harden then pour the black
**** Michael's craft store in the section for gift wrap supplies- they have bags of different color cellophane already cut up! Red, green, yellow, purple , blue and white.
***** I found a site where you can the cellophane glitter. The site is Confetti.com and the cellophane glitter is called Party Ice. The prices are pretty good. You can buy it by the pound or they have shakers and little packets.
